What's New in the Old?: Early works on paper, cloth, and stone

This online exhibition features a great variety of works predominantly from the 1950's through the 1980's. The earliest work is a fabulous totemic composition by Amidlak, ca. 1952 and the latest works are a pair of magnificent drawings by Nick Sikkuark whose spectacular solo exhibition just finished at the National Gallery of Canada. There are several exceptional works by Lucy Tasseor and Mary Ayaq Anowtalik from Arviat. There are wonderful family groups from Qamani'tuaq;  a wonderful small Yvonne Kanayuk and a massive opus by Barnabus Arnasungaaq. Also from Baker Lake are wonderful birds by Miriam fashioned from embroidery thread and a superlative stone bird cluster by her husband Silas.  There are a number of excellent selections from Baffin Island communities of Kinngait, Iqaluit, & Kimmirut
